Principal Full Stack Engineer — Founding Team

Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

About Stock

Stock is a VC backed startup building the logistics infrastructure for inventory donations.

Just coming out of a $1.5m pre-seed raise, Stock has already facilitated the donation of 2 million+ units of inventory from brands to nonprofits. That is $25M in GMV of excess inventory saved from the landfill and directly injected into charities.

Every year, $163B of perfectly usable inventory goes unsold, sitting in warehouses, getting liquidated, or ending up in landfills. At the same time, nonprofits across the country are actively searching for that exact inventory.

We’re fixing that.

Stock connects the 4 million Shopify brands, 20,000 warehouse providers, and 1.5 million nonprofits to move excess inventory quickly, compliantly, and at scale turning what used to be a cost center into a financial and environmental win.

We’ve already partnered with leading logistics operators such as Flexport, Radial, Stord and Shipmonk and are moving hundreds of thousands of units per month. And we’re just getting started.

Our culture is simple:
We build fast, solve real problems, and care deeply about what we’re putting into the world. This is not incremental work; we're redesigning how inventory moves when it no longer fits traditional commerce.

The Role

We’re hiring a Principal Full Stack Engineer to build the core Stock platform from the ground up.

This is a true 0 → 1 role.

You’ll own the architecture, stack, design, and development of the platform that powers how inventory is listed, matched, moved, and tracked across brands, warehouses, and nonprofits.

You won’t be maintaining legacy systems, you’ll be defining the system.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect and build the Stock platform end-to-end (frontend, backend, infrastructure)

  • Design systems that handle inventory workflows, logistics coordination, and real-world constraints

  • Define our AI strategy both internally and externally

  • Partner directly with the founder to translate operations into scalable software

  • Move quickly from idea → build → deploy → iterate

  • Hire and mentor team members as we grow

  • Establish engineering best practices as we scale

What We’re Looking For

  • 7+ years of full stack experience (startup or high-ownership environments preferred)

  • Proven track record building products from scratch (not just maintaining). Must enjoy building! You are the initial

  • Strong product instincts. You think in workflows, not just code

  • Ability to operate with ambiguity and move fast without perfect information

  • Deep care for quality, speed, and impact

Bonus if you’ve worked in:

  • Marketplaces

  • Logistics / supply chain

  • High-growth startup environments

Why This Role

  • Own a platform from day one — not a feature, the entire system

  • Work directly with the founder on core company-building decisions

  • Work directly with external stakeholders — you will not be handed requirements, you need to create the requirements

  • Solve a massive, real-world problem at the intersection of logistics and sustainability

  • Build something that actually matters — economically and environmentally

Where We’re Going

Stock is building the default infrastructure layer for excess inventory. Stock is the system brands and 3PLs rely on when products can’t be sold through traditional channels.

Today, we’re solving a clear pain point: moving excess inventory quickly, compliantly, and profitably through donation. But this is just the starting point.

In the future, we see Stock becoming:

  • The operating system for inventory disposition — not just donation, but the full decision engine across donation, liquidation, resale, and recycling

  • Embedded within every major 3PL and commerce platform — a native extension of fulfillment workflows, as seamless as creating an order

  • A real-time marketplace connecting brands, nonprofits, and alternative buyers with intelligent matching and logistics orchestration

  • A system of record for ESG and financial impact — tracking tax benefits, sustainability metrics, and operational savings in one place

  • A global network capable of redistributing billions of units of excess inventory annually

We believe the companies that win in the next decade won’t just optimize for revenue they’ll optimize for efficiency, sustainability, and capital recovery. Stock sits at the center of that shift.

Joining Stock now means helping define an entirely new category and building the infrastructure that powers it.

Compensation & Equity

We believe in aligning incentives with long-term impact and ownership.

  • Base Salary: $150,000

  • Equity: 3% ownership in Stock, with standard vesting (4-year vest with a 1-year cliff)

  • Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

This role is designed for someone who wants to build and own a meaningful part of the company, not just contribute to it. As an early team member, your equity reflects the importance of this role in shaping the future of Stock.

Stock is an equal opportunity employer.
