Operations Specialist

Company Overview Join Self Fund Health, an innovative startup reshaping the healthcare landscape for Wisconsin businesses. Our mission is to empower companies to take control of their healthcare expenses through self-funded health plans, Direct Primary Care (DPC), and free-market care solutions. We’re dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable healthcare options that align with our clients' financial goals while challenging the status quo of traditional fully insured plans.

As part of our close-knit, mission-driven team, you’ll play a key role in creating positive change in healthcare throughout the state and surrounding areas. Wisconsin is currently ranked among the top five most expensive states for healthcare; we are determined to change that.

Position Overview

We are seeking an Operations Specialist to ensure smooth day-to-day execution across client onboarding, plan administration, and operational support. This role is at the center of how Self Fund Health delivers its promise: helping employers and employees get better care at lower cost.

You’ll work closely with brokers, employers, internal teams, and vendor partners across Wisconsin and the Midwest to coordinate implementations, support client inquiries, streamline processes, and maintain high service levels. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to pivot between tasks while keeping client satisfaction and operational efficiency top of mind.

The ideal candidate has experience in the health insurance ecosystem (health plan, broker agency, TPA, network, or provider system) and thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup environment.

Key Responsibilities

Client & Broker Support

  • Serve as the first point of contact for routine client inquiries, escalating as needed.
  • Provide timely and accurate responses regarding benefits, enrollment, billing, provider networks, and policy details.
  • Conduct virtual or in-person training for employers and brokers on portals, billing, and enrollment processes.
  • Document interactions in CRM and identify opportunities for process improvements.

Implementation & Onboarding

  • Support onboarding of new clients, including setup of portals, contracts, enrollment, and member materials (SBCs, SPDs, Guides).
  • Coordinate across sales, plan management, and vendor partners to ensure a seamless launch.
  • Help manage open enrollment processes, including communications, scheduling, and member education sessions.

Operations & Reporting

  • Track and manage client requests to resolution.
  • Support proposal preparation, RFP responses, and reporting for the sales team.
  • Assist with plan renewals by gathering documents, preparing reports, and coordinating timelines.
  • Identify operational gaps and recommend process enhancements to improve efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Location: Wisconsin-based remote, with knowledge of the regional healthcare and broker landscape.
  • Experience: 3–5 years in health insurance or a related field, ideally with exposure to self-funding, stop loss, or provider networks.
  • Knowledge: Solid understanding of health insurance fundamentals; exposure to DPC and free-market healthcare models a plus.
  • Skills: Strong client service orientation, excellent communication, and proficiency with CRM systems.
  • Mindset: Mission-driven, adaptable, and eager to improve healthcare outcomes while reducing costs for local businesses.

Working Conditions

  • Remote Role: Primarily remote with occasional travel within Wisconsin and surrounding states.
  • Startup Environment: Fast-moving, collaborative, and growth-oriented culture.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary.
  • Professional development and career growth opportunities.
  • Paid time off (PTO), holidays, and other benefits.
  • Opportunity to directly impact healthcare affordability and innovation in Wisconsin and beyond.

If you’re detail-oriented, thrive on operational excellence, and want to be part of transforming healthcare for Midwest employers and their employees, we’d love to hear from you.
