Rentgrata is a multifamily real estate technology (PropTech) company founded in 2016 to improve the lives of apartment residents, prospective renters, and property managers.

When trying to find an apartment, have you ever wanted to ask a current resident how they like the place? Rentgrata connects people interested in an apartment building with people who actually live there. If you are searching for a new apartment, you can reach out to current residents and ask questions important to you. If a lease is signed, you and the resident split the referral money offered by the property manager. We are bringing apartment renters closer together, creating friendships, and helping them earn a little side income along the way.

To help us make life better for all apartment renters and property managers, we are looking for an experienced software engineer to help build the future of Rentgrata’s technology.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, skilled engineer to join our team to help design and implement the future of our application architecture, as well as build new mission-critical features to help our business expand. Ideal candidates should be looking for a small, fast-paced startup environment where they can immediately have a major impact.

Responsibilities include:

• Design and develop new application architecture to suit our growing product, business, and team.

• Write code in our Ruby on Rails backend, React frontend, Postgres database, and third-party API integrations to build features, fix bugs, refactor code, and write tests.

• Taking a creative problem-solving approach to our business, product, and tech problems, creating solutions that directly impact our business goals.

The ideal candidate:

• Enjoys autonomy, taking ownership, and is a self-starter. Values the ability to create and work freely.

• Likes working with a small team in a fast-paced environment.

• Seeks constant learning and improvement, always striving to get better at their craft.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field

• 2+ years of professional experience in a software engineering role

• 2+ years of experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)

• 2+ years of experience developing in Ruby on Rails and JavaScript (preferably with React)

• Strong communication skills and a desire to creatively solve complex problems

Bonus Qualifications

Candidates with one or more of the following will be able to take ownership over some of the areas we need most:

• DevOps experience, such as containerization, automation, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure configuration.

• Database expertise, such as having designed and built a mature database schema or migrated data from a legacy system.

• Service-oriented or microservices architecture experience, having designed, built, deployed, and maintained services in a production environment.

• Math or data science background. There’s a lot of potential value we can deliver with our dataset.
