About the Role:
SevenFifty Daily and Provi are looking for an associate editor to join their editorial team. This position is full-time and reports to the editor in chief of SevenFifty Daily.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the drinks industry and have a minimum of 2 years experience in print and digital media covering the beverage alcohol space. They will be a strong writer with the desire to further develop reported journalism skills, as well as possess good developmental editing and copyediting skills. This person will work with freelance writers to shape pieces, support sponsored content and email projects, and collaborate in overall digital strategy for growing readership, ad opportunities/revenue, and lead generation across SevenFifty Daily and Provi’s digital platforms.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage freelance writers to shape feature articles, new stories, and content that is timely, engaging and compelling from assignment through invoicing
  • Write hed/dek, ad copy, story starts, social media taglines that optimize digital search
  • Copy-edit and proof stories, work with writers to find best sources, fact-check, secure images, draft captions
  • Write and contribute content as needed
  • Coordinate visual assets as needed
  • Write weekly People News column
  • Write social media copy and schedule content for posting
  • Support the editorial production of sponsored content projects, including communicating with clients about their editorial vision for sponsored pieces and emails, writing creative briefs, writing and editing ad copy, and selecting ad images
  • Ensure style and quality control and maintain SFD voice and style in sponsored content pieces
  • Participate in weekly team calls
  • Participate in client kick-off calls
  • Select and ensure images work editorially
  • Manage contributor contracts and invoices
  • Monitor team email alias and inbox

What We’re Looking For:

  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to function in fast-moving, dynamic work environment
  • Strong writing skills
  • Basic developmental editing and copyediting skills/able to lead, guide, and direct freelance writers to craft compelling and unique content through multiple rounds of edits
  • Knowledge of and interest in beverage alcohol (wine/beer/spirits), particularly the beverage alcohol trade
  • Show meticulous attention to detail, accuracy (fact-checking) as well as the bigger picture vision for balance, diversity, and tone
  • Familiarity with trade voice and ability to adapt to SFD tone and style
  • Efficient under pressure and able to meet multiple weekly and monthly deadlines
  • Understanding of SEO best practices
  • Familiarity working with WordPress, Asana or Jira, Google Drive, or similar tools
  • A knack for brainstorming creative story ideas and turning them into engaging editorial
  • Professional client management and communication skills; ability to work with range of clients and advertisers
  • Can problem solve independently
