Position Overview:
The Green Coffee Manager is responsible for sourcing and managing all green coffee used at Bizzy Cold Brew. This role leads vendor relationships, ensures green quality through cupping and grading, supports formulation and R&D, and develops internal training systems around green coffee knowledge and sensory. This position is central to maintaining product quality, cost competitiveness, and team education.
Key Responsibilities:
Sourcing & Vendor Management
- Manage relationships with roasters, importers, producers, and cooperatives
- Forecast, purchase, and track green coffee inventory and contracts
- Ensure traceability, documentation, and supplier compliance
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and drive cost savings, risk reduction, and quality improvements in green sourcing
- Evaluate alternative origins, processing methods, and suppliers
Quality & Sensory
- Conduct and document cuppings, physical grading, and sensory evaluations of green lots
- Define and maintain green coffee quality standards in collaboration with QA
Blend Development & Support
- Lead formulation of green blends and flavors with R&D team
- Test and validate new coffees for product development and seasonal programs
Internal Training & Education
- Create and lead internal training on green coffee quality and evaluation
- Coach cross-functional teams (R&D, QA, Operations) on cupping protocols and defect identification
- Build a reference library of coffees and defects for ongoing learning
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in green coffee sourcing, QC, or importing
- Strong cupping and sensory evaluation skills (Q Grader preferred but not required)
- Experience working with importers and producers in multiple origins
- Familiarity with traceability systems and coffee inventory management tools
- Excellent communication, project management, and documentation skills
