We’re a globally-distributed and rapidly growing venture-backed team of learners, innovators and collaborators. Our mission is to build an Enterprise-grade product that makes it easy for data teams at Fortune 500’s and startups alike to adopt Apache Airflow. As a member of our team, you will be at the forefront of the industry as we strive to deliver the world's data.

Your background may be unconventional; as long as you have the essential qualifications, we encourage you to apply. While having "bonus" qualifications makes for a strong candidate, Astronomer values diverse experiences. Many of us at Astronomer haven't followed traditional career paths, and we welcome it if yours hasn't either.

About this role:

As a Staff Frontend Engineer, you will shape and execute frontend development of applications at Astronomer. You will work on our cloud-based managed service for Apache Airflow, focusing on building a user-friendly and intuitive UI that seamlessly integrates with the greater Astronomer product ecosystem.

You will work collaboratively with our product teams to create an exceptional user experience for our customers. It's a great opportunity to work on some of the most challenging problems in data orchestration while contributing to the development of Astronomer’s next-generation product suite.

Of course, you will have the freedom to innovate, suggest new ideas, and be an integral part of the decision-making process.

What you get to do:

  • Own the end-to-end user experience for a new business-critical application

  • Design, implement, and maintain UI components, to build new features and improve existing ones

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize user needs, functional requirements, and design specifications

  • Continuously improve the user experience by optimizing performance and resolving technical issues

  • Collaborate with our team of Airflow connoisseurs, adding unique features to the open-source Airflow initiatives that set us apart in the commercial landscape

  • Contribute to a culture of innovation by proposing new ideas, testing new technologies and sharing your knowledge with the team

  • Review user feedback with product leads and triage into new features

What you bring to the role:

  • 7+ years of frontend or UI development experience

  • Experience leading complex front-end projects from conception to completion

  • Strong proficiency in modern front-end technologies such as React, Typescript, Angular, Vue.js, or similar frameworks

  • Deep knowledge of architecture design, data structures, algorithms, online services, frameworks, and their tradeoffs

  • Experience in developing applications that meet enterprise-level security and control

  • Experience working with RESTful APIs and integrating with backend services

  • Experience with software development best practices, such as code reviews, testing, CI/CD, version control, automation and debugging

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as we are a remote-first company.

  • Self-motivated work ethic

  • Passion for delivering high-quality user experiences

  • Passion for open-source technologies/ecosystems

Bonus points if you have:

  • A portfolio you can share to demonstrate the strength of your work

  • Experience with cloud-native technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS

  • Familiarity with server-side web technologies

  • Familiarity with big data processing frameworks such as Apache Airflow or Apache Spark

  • Experience with UI/UX design tools like Sketch or Figma

The estimated salary for this role ranges from $265,000 - $175,000, along with an equity component a comprehensive benefits package.
