We're on the hunt for a diligent Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) who sees the bigger picture in testing beyond just bug identification. Your role is crucial in maintaining our product's reliability and performance. This role will be involved in testing the frontend and backend components of ActiveCampaign . The ActiveCampaign engineering team consists of ~9 engineers, spread across the Frontend, Backend, QA, and SRE teams.

About you:

  • You bring a methodical approach to manual and automated testing.
  • You are an expert in identifying, diagnosing, and effectively communicating risks and issues.
  • You have a knack for prioritizing tasks and managing your workload efficiently, ensuring appropriate test coverage on a healthy timeline.
  • You approach challenges with curiosity and a problem-solving mindset, always looking for ways to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Collaborative in nature, you enjoy working in tandem with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders, fostering an environment of learning and growth.

Technical Environment:

  • You will be engaging with a broad range of technologies and tools aimed at ensuring the quality and reliability of our web-based applications. This includes:
  • Extensive manual testing methodologies (Black/Gray Box Testing, Exploratory Testing, Cross Browser Testing)
  • Automated browser testing (Selenium, Playwright)
  • Both UI and RESTful API testing
  • Creating, supporting, and extending test scripts and automation in Ruby

What your day could consist of:

  • Planning, designing, and executing test cases with a focus on both manual and automated testing.
  • Collaborating closely with development teams to identify potential issues early in the development cycle.
  • Participating in code reviews and providing valuable feedback to improve overall product quality.
  • Utilizing task management and bug tracking tools to organize and prioritize testing efforts.
  • Enhancing our automated testing framework, contributing to a more efficient and effective testing process.

What you need:

  • 5+ years of experience in manual testing
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in automated testing
  • Solid understanding of email technologies such as IMAP, POP, SMTP and their testing implications.
  • Proficiency in writing code for test automation, preferably in Ruby.
  • Proficiency in containerization (Docker)
  • Experience with version control systems, API testing, and web debugging tools.

What you can expect:

  • Within 1 month, you'll:
  • Complete your onboarding process, getting to know your team and the tools you'll be using.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of our products, architecture, and the quality challenges we aim to address.
  • Start collaborating on small testing projects, applying your manual and automated testing skills.
  • Within 3 months, you'll:
  • Establish yourself as a key member of the quality assurance team, actively participating in planning and execution of testing strategies.
  • Begin to identify and advocate for improvements in our testing processes and tools, based on your observations and experiences.
  • Engage in regular knowledge-sharing sessions, contributing to the team's collective learning and growth.
  • Within 6 months, you'll:
  • Have a significant impact on the quality of our product, leading initiatives to enhance our testing framework and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive quality throughout the development process, from planning to deployment.
